Start Strong
Start your weekend off with an exciting intensive workshop held just before the rest of the festival gets going with two of America's real talents.
Both classes begin at 3 pm on Friday, September 7, 2012 and end at 5 pm.
Class size is limited and a separate registration fee is required.
Hammer Dulcimer
with Kendra Ward
Kendra Ward is the "real deal" on hammered and mountain dulcimer. Raised in a musical family deep in Appalachia, Kendra began dulcimer when she was four and learned from constant exposure to fiddlers, banjo players, dancers and other traditional artists. Nowadays, Kendra is one of the best-loved and most in-demand dulcimer teachers on the festival circuit.
Creative Hammering: Rethink your whole approach to playing! In this class we will learn to unleash our creativity and harness the inspiration to develop our own personal styles! We will focus on "tricks and licks" that we can use to revolutionize our arrangements and create spontaneous improvisations! It's a whole lot easier than it sounds, and a few ideas, confidence and a willingness to try are all you need!
This intensive class is for advanced beginner to advanced.
Guitar with Bob Bence
Rhythm, Bass Runs and Fill Licks
Learn to play interesting and exciting rhythm guitar! This class covers all the techniques, subtleties and intricacies necessary to becoming a complete rhythm guitarist. We'll learn to keep better time, outline chords and chord changes, use bass runs to add forward momentum to the music and provide texture, dynamics and interest to all our rhythm parts! (This class is aimed primarily at "flatpickers," but lot's of these concepts will apply to "fingerpickers" too! All guitarists are welcome!)
Bob Bence Bob is an inspiring teacher and known as both a superb guitarist, an award-winning musician whose bold, powerful guitar style harkens back to the days of Riley Puckett and Roy Harvey, and whose professional credits include not only festivals and concert halls, but also comedy clubs and improv stages.
